Known as Nanook to the Inuit tribes, Polar Bears embody the living spirit of the
North in strength, power and knowledge. Standing 9 feet tall and weighing over 1000 pounds, adults are an awesome sight.
Polar Bears are protected in America, and only Native Alaskans are allowed to hunt them. Populations are stable across their Arctic range with over 20,000 known bears, but loss of sea ice and human intervention threaten the species. Living a relatively solitary life, these magnificent animals can easily swim 50 miles at a time in search of suitable ice to hunt from. They also can range over 100 miles on land and can teach us how to move fluidly between realms in our lives, cruising the path between the spiritual and physical with tremendous power and dignity.
